July 2007

It is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for Mayor of Frisco. While the election is not until May 2008, there is a lot to be done between now and then.

I have spent months talking with a lot of different people to get their feedback and advice. Most importantly, I consulted with my wife, my children, my employer, and through prayer, I looked to God. The balance that I have achieved in my life over the past year between my faith, family, friends, work, and public life has put me in the best place I have ever been in my life. I am very grateful for the opportunities that continue to come my way, and that I am surrounded by so many people who are such positive influences in my life. All of that has made this decision possible.

I am so grateful and humbled by the wonderful citizens of Frisco who re-elected me to the City Council in May of 2005 with 92% of the vote. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time serving the City of Frisco over the past five years and look forward to continuing to do so well into the future. I have met so many great people and have learned so much. Together, we have accomplished a great deal for the people of Frisco, and there is so much more that I want to do to continue to increase the quality of life we enjoy here in this incredible city.

My public service has and will continue to center around “Preserving Frisco’s Past and Defining Frisco’s Future.” So many great things have happened over the past few years related to this, and I thank everybody who has helped in any way.

Frisco is an amazing city, and together, we will continue to tackle the issues that face our fast growing city. The majority of citizens I talk to absolutely love living in Frisco, and I will continue to devote my efforts towards quality of life initiatives, infrastructure improvements, public health & safety, tax base balance, arts & culture, parks & trails development, among other issues.

The last five years or so have seen tremendous growth and change in Frisco, and the next 5-10 years will be even more exciting. The growth will continue and we will also face different kinds of challenges – that of a maturing city.

Our great city needs to have continuity and experience on the Council during this critical growth period. Frisco needs leadership, experience, integrity, vision, dedication, passion for our city, ability to work with others and the ability to make things happen. I have demonstrated time and time again that I possess those qualities and more.

Running an effective campaign is not easy though, and it is certainly not cheap. If you are interested in helping our campaign in any way to continue the greatness that is Frisco, please let me know. There is a lot of work to do, but it will also be a lot of fun.

Please contact me at or 214-336-3355 about how you can get involved in this Mayoral election bid and please visit www.mattlafata.com to learn more about me and my accomplishments and goals.

May 9, 2005

On May 7, I was re-elected to the Frisco City Council with over 92% of the vote. I would like to thank the good citizens of our great city for their continued trust in me to help guide this city in the right direction. Your support means so much to me. I also must thank my family, campaign team and supporters. I have the greatest campaign workers in the world who are so dedicated and wonderful to work with.

April 21, 2005

Thank you to the Dallas Morning News for their great endorsement of me which stated the following in their April 20 issue: “We just can’t imagine anyone doing more to make local government more relevant and accessible to people than what Mr. Lafata has done in his time on the council. His weekly newsletter delivered through email and his standing practice of handing out his mobile phone number to anyone who asks makes him one of the most accessible local representatives in North Texas. He answers questions directly and we agree with him on major issues, such as managing growth and new roads, increasing the property tax exemption for seniors, and opposing lower appraisal caps.”

I would like to thank Inside Collin County Business Journal for naming me this week as one of the “21 Leaders for the 21st Century”. I am grateful and humbled by such a great honor.
